Walk to School Initiative Participation

2015
A new initiative that has been implemented throughout our public schools in Cambridge to encourage students to walk to school, rather than rely on alternative methods of travel (ie. Personal vehicle, taxi, etc.) This metric tracks how many schools are participating in this program every year.

In it's first year of operation, the walk to school initiative has already succeeded in getting the involvement of nearly one fifth of Cambridge's schools and efforts to expand the program to other schools is well underway.

This measure tracks the percentage of schools participating in this program. Walking to school is part of daily exercise in an effort to encourage physical activity and related social and health benefits. Walking to school also has positive environmental impacts through a reduction in vehicle traffic.
