Affordable Housing Units in Cambridge

2015
A key goal of the City is to ensure an adequate housing supply which includes an appropriate supply of affordable housing. This measure shows the total units within Cambridge year over year, along side breaking them down into either Region-owned or owned and managed housing units.

With a total of 3151 affordable housing units, Cambridge can provide cost efficient places to live for 5000-10,000 individuals. Approximately 1/3rd are owned by the Region of Waterloo while the remaining 2/3rds are owned and managed by separate entities. As indicated by the Average wait time KPI, wait times for Cambridge public housing remain high for most applicants, indicating that there remains a shortfall in units as demanded.

This measure allows the City to determine the need as well as the effectiveness of the Region’s and City’s efforts in increasing the supply of affordable housing units.
